After receiving instructions from the Office of the National Security Adviser and security agency leaders, the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) is set to detain individuals believed to be backing the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.
Among those targeted for arrest is Omoyele Sowore, a past presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) and a key figure in the protest campaign, known for his outspoken criticisms of the government.
It was initially a peaceful nationwide protests before it escalated into violence in certain regions, leading to casualties and property destruction. The Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) has boosted security at borders and entry points to stop foreign interference and arrest suspects as instructed.
A senior immigration official stated that upon their arrival in Nigeria, Sowore and others will be taken into custody.
“We have been notified to pick them up and hand them over to the appropriate authorities,” she stated.
The NIS is also watching closely to prevent outside interference, with an insider confirming that Sowore is being monitored.
The source revealed, “I can confirm to you that Sowore is definitely one of those on our watchlist. I saw his name among those forwarded to immigration to arrest on arrival in the country.”
