He went on urging citizens to take necessary precautions and stay vigilant in the face of this impending natural disaster.

Professor Joseph Utsev, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, warned of impending floods during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

He urged proactive measures to mitigate potential disasters, citing the 2024 Annual Flood Outlook report by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

The report identified 148 high-risk local government areas across 31 states, including Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, and Anambra, with increased flood risks from April to November and peak severity expected between July and September.

The minister revealed that state governors have been informed and provided with tailored forecasts and prevention strategies for their regions.

“Over 10 states and the FCT have already experienced varying levels of flooding since April, resulting in casualties and property damage.

“Notable incidents include the flooding in Trademore Estate, FCT, which led to two deaths and significant property loss,” he said
