FAAN to set up magistrate courts to prosecute violators of airport rules

Date:

The Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is set to establish magistrate courts within airport premises nationwide to prosecute individuals who violate rules and anti-touting regulations. This decision was announced by FAAN’s Managing Director and CEO, Olubunmi Kuku, during a meeting with security agency heads at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Kuku emphasized the need to enhance passenger experience and facilitation, citing the presence of touts and loitering individuals as a significant challenge. She noted that these individuals have no legitimate business at the airport and create issues for genuine users. To address this, FAAN will prosecute violators onsite, utilizing an anti-touting taskforce.

Additionally, Kuku addressed car hire operators who violate processes and protocols, warning that such behavior will no longer be tolerated. She also highlighted the need to reduce manual baggage searches at the international wing, proposing a system where baggage is screened through machines, with security officials viewing contents in real-time and only conducting secondary screenings as needed.

Kuku emphasized the importance of streamlining efforts and improving airport processes to keep up with modern standards. She also provided an update on the ongoing work at Terminal C, stating that it will be ready for use by December, and mentioned plans to develop more international routes to maximize the underutilized international terminal.
