Yul Edochie has faced criticism for publicly praising Jerry Williams, who is struggling with drug addiction.
Yul Edochie took to Instagram to express his admiration and support for Jerry Williams, referring to him as the “pride of Africa” and affirming that his accomplishments and talents cannot be diminished.
He offered words of encouragement, urging Jerry to overcome his struggles with drug addiction and emerge even stronger, while also seeking divine guidance and protection for him.
Yul Edochie’s tribute to Jerry Williams sparked backlash from many, particularly given Jerry’s well-documented struggles with drug addiction, which led to his suspension from the Nollywood industry, making some question the timing and appropriateness of Yul’s public praise.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) suspended Jerry Williams indefinitely in June 2023 due to his drug addiction, which had been escalating since December.
Despite considering suspension earlier, the Guild initially opted for a more lenient approach, offering minor treatments, but Jerry failed to comply, leading to the eventual suspension.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria’s president deemed Jerry Williams a risk to himself and others on set, leading to his suspension.
But in a turn of events, Jerry has now taken steps towards recovery by entering a rehab facility in July, where he’s receiving intensive treatment. This follows earlier warnings from his colleagues about his drug use, which he has finally heeded.
