Farouk Lawan completes his five years sentence from Kuje Custodial Centre

The former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, has completed his jail sentence from the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja.

Lawan expressed gratitude saying, “Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah. Today marks the start of a new chapter in my life as I leave Kuje Custodial Centre. I am immensely thankful to Allah SWT for guiding me through this trial.”

While serving as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy Regime, he was accused of demanding the bribe of $3 million from businessman Femi Otedola.

Femi Otedola allegedly accused him of accepting $500,000 to remove his company’s name from the list of firms implicated in the 2012 fuel subsidy scam.

Lawan further noted that the prosection counsel could not provide any evidence to show that he accepted the bribe. He stated that the Federal Government filed three charges against him which he was found guilty.

He explained how he received five year sentence for the first two counts and seven years for the last count, all to run simultaneously.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja reduced it to five years sentence which he has completed.
