The Federal Government and the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre of the Federal Ministry of Environment have separately predicted heavy rains in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The predictions cover two time periods from August 30 to September 3, 2024 and September 2-3, 2024.
The identified locations in these states may experience heavy rainfall leading to potential flooding. The states predicted to be affected are Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Rivers, Niger, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.
Additionally, predictions for September 2-3, 2024 include locations in Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Plateau, Niger, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Benue, Enugu, the FCT, and Cross River State.
Adding, the ministry added, “Due to the rise in the water level of River Niger, communities downstream of Jebba are advised to evacuate. Relevant stakeholders should take note.”
