Early on Friday, a fire broke out at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters in the Ogba area of Lagos. The fire damaged a two-story building, particularly affecting one of the two-bedroom apartments in a three-story building with 16 two-bedroom flats.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire started due to an electrical surge in the children’s room of the impacted apartment.
The fire destroyed everything in the children’s bedroom, causing losses worth millions of naira.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed the incident and praised the quick and coordinated efforts of the Lagos Response Team (LRT), the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Their fast response prevented the fire from spreading further and causing more damage.
Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu stated, “Fortunately, there was no loss of life, and no injuries were sustained in the incident.”
“We also took the opportunity to enlighten the victims and other occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences,”
At 5:00 am, teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and the Nigerian Police were still present at the location to make sure that the situation was fully managed and secure.
