First Bank wins Euromoney award for ESG investments in Nigeria

First Bank of Nigeria PLC has received the prestigious Euromoney award for its outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investments in Nigeria. This recognition solidifies the bank’s position as a leader in sustainable banking and finance practices, built over its 130-year history.

According to Folake Ani-Mumuney, group head of marketing and corporate communications, the award honors First Bank’s innovative financial solutions and initiatives that have made significant contributions to ESG investments in Nigeria. Euromoney acknowledged the bank’s progress in implementing an ESG management system, which enabled the screening of N4.2 trillion in new transactions for potential ESG risks in 2024.

First Bank has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable practices through various initiatives, including a $10 million solar energy project, a N16 billion investment in modular independent power plants, and a tree planting campaign with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation.

Ani-Mumuney expressed delight at the recognition, stating that it validates First Bank’s efforts to create a sustainable and inclusive future for all stakeholders. She reiterated the bank’s commitment to driving positive impact in the marketplace, workplace, environment, and communities it serves.

Euromoney’s awards program is considered the most prestigious in the global banking industry, recognizing banks and bankers who have made a significant impact. First Bank’s award is a testament to its exceptional dedication to ESG practices and its role as a leader in sustainable banking.
