Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, has made a formal request for the transfer of his case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from its current jurisdiction to Kogi State.
Yahaya Bello’s legal team has put forth an argument stating that considering the alleged offense was purportedly committed during his tenure as the governor of Kogi State, it is more appropriate and just for the case to be heard within the jurisdiction of Kogi State itself.
They contend that the location of the trial should align with the context of the alleged offense, thereby emphasizing the significance of conducting the legal proceedings in Kogi state.
Today, Yahaya Bello, the former governor, is set to be arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on allegations of fraud, with the charges totaling N82 billion.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will be responsible for prosecuting the case on behalf of the federal government.
The arraignment of Yahaya Bello is scheduled as the seventh item on Justice Emeka Nwite’s cause list. Nevertheless, there is uncertainty regarding Bello’s actual appearance in court as initially promised.
