Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja in a N33 billion fraud case. Justice James Omotosho delivered the ruling on Friday, setting the bail amount at N10 billion. The conditions for Mamman’s release include providing two sureties who own properties in Abuja valued at a minimum of N750 million.
Additionally, the sureties must submit their three-year tax clearance certificate and an affidavit of means.The bail conditions include submitting certified bank statements, recent passport photographs, and surrendering Mamman’s international passport. A bank guarantee or bond of N10 billion is also accepted. Mamman’s cooperation with the EFCC during his administrative bail was cited by his legal team.
The EFCC did not oppose the bail request but requested conditions to ensure Mamman’s attendance at his trial. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), represented by A. O. Mohammed, did not object to the bail request for former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman.
However, the EFCC sought conditions to ensure Mamman’s presence at his trial. Mamman, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, was arrested in 2021 and is facing a 12-count charge related to the alleged diversion of N22 billion meant for power projects and the acquisition of assets in Nigeria and abroad. The case has been adjourned until September 25 for the hearing.
