A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Bode George, has proclaimed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the legitimate leader of the party in Rivers State.
He called on all PDP members to support Fubara to resolve the growing political unrest in the state.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today show on Monday, George emphasized that Fubara, as the current governor, holds the leadership position in the PDP in Rivers State, not his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who has been a focal point of the increasing tensions.
George stated, “Fubara is the leader of PDP in Rivers, not Wike. We have to stand by him.”
Following disturbing incidents such as arson attacks on local government offices, there is a call for reconciliation in Rivers State. The rift between Fubara and Wike is seen as a major cause of unrest, raising fears of further escalation without intervention.
George, a seasoned politician, aims to restore peace in the state and mentioned that the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BOT) is working to mediate between the two leaders.
George said, “We have made attempts to reconcile both Fubara and Wike. I spoke with the BOT chairman and other members, and we’ve tried to meet with both sides. Wike even agreed to a meeting after returning from China, but I haven’t been updated on the final outcome.”
The PDP leader stressed that his stance is not about supporting one party over another but about advocating for fairness and upholding stability.
He concluded, “We need justice, equity, and fairness in Rivers. The leader of the party in the state is Governor Fubara, and we all must stand by him.”
