Reports suggest a new scheme is underway to depose Muhammad Sanusi II from his position as the emir of Kano State, as disclosed by sources linked to the Kofar Kudu Palace.
Allegedly spearheaded by influential figures in Kano, purportedly including All Progressive Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, plans are being orchestrated to unseat the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor from his role as the 16th Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano Council of Chiefs.
Sources have indicated that Ganduje’s main aim is to enlist the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the bid to remove Emir Sanusi, while also exerting pressure on former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero to step down.
This maneuver is being veiled as an effort to address leadership conflicts within the state. Ganduje, who has had conflicts with Emir Sanusi in the past, has allegedly formed a devoted group of Kano APC members, including influential politicians, business figures, traders, and key players. Their primary objective is to convince President Tinubu to step in, enabling Ganduje to achieve his long-held goal of dethroning Emir Sanusi.
This recent development is part of Ganduje’s ongoing efforts to weaken Emir Sanusi, tracing back to 2020 when he played a significant role in the controversial removal of the emir.
Ganduje’s current plan includes using the authority of the presidency to guarantee the permanent removal of Sanusi and, unexpectedly, encouraging Aminu Ado Bayero to resign too, supposedly in the interest of promoting harmony.
While the Kano State Government has steadfastly affirmed Emir Sanusi as the rightful Emir, influential politicians and business figures aligned with the APC and the presidency have persistently acknowledged Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir.

“These individuals, all closely aligned with Ganduje, have rallied around his cause, advocating for the removal of both emirs under the guise of settling leadership tensions within the Kano Emirate.
“Their objective is bold and clear: to persuade President Tinubu to intervene, enabling Ganduje to complete his long-standing mission to unseat Emir Sanusi.
“While cloaked in the rhetoric of “restoring peace,” Ganduje’s true agenda is becoming increasingly evident—he seeks to leverage presidential power to oust Emir Sanusi, a figure he has repeatedly clashed with.
“This latest move is a continuation of Ganduje’s efforts to undermine Emir Sanusi, dating back to 2020 when he played a central role in the emir’s controversial deposition.
“Now, Ganduje is intent on using his political influence to finish what he started.
