In preparation for the upcoming Local Government elections set for October 26, the Kano State governor has removed all 44 Local Government caretaker committee chairpersons from their positions.
Governor Abba Yusuf dissolved the committee chairpersons immediately. According to a statement from Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, the chairpersons have been instructed to transfer leadership responsibilities and all essential documentation to their respective Directors of Personnel Management.
The governor said, “This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors.”
Yusuf expressed gratitude to the committee chairpersons for their efforts and commitment to advancing the progress of their Local Government Areas.
Nevertheless, the governor’s instruction comes shortly after the Kano State House of Assembly endorsed a two-term elongation for the chairpersons, with the legislators stating that this extension would maintain consistency in their respective communities.
