Governor Douye Diri responds to the call to be Atiku’s running mate

Date:

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has responded to a recent request for him to become the running mate of Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 general election. According to the reports, a group known as ‘Diri Angels’ recommended Diri as Atiku’s running mate if he becomes the party’s candidate again in 2027.

However, Diri promptly declined the offer, rejecting the call to be Atiku’s running mate.Governor Douye Diri, speaking through his chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah, described the suggestion as a trick played by dishonest politicians. He believed that the group’s intention was to cause disagreements among people, but their plan failed.

Diri stated that he has always been guided by God throughout his political journey and he remains steadfast in upholding his godly and political principles. He emphasized that he is not influenced by any advocacy that contradicts those principles.

He noted, “I am not swayed by such calls. In my political journey, I have always relied on God and not on political jobbers with devious intentions.”

Diri reassured the people of Bayelsa State that he is dedicated to delivering the benefits of democracy, as mandated by their initial support in 2019 and their reaffirmation on November 11, 2023. He urged the people of the state not to be concerned about the actions of deceitful politicians who aim to divert his attention and focus.
