Honorable Idris Salman, who represents the Ijumu/Kabba Bunu Federal Constituency in Kogi State, has formally declared his decision to switch his political allegiance from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) while serving in the House of Representatives.
During today’s plenary session, Honorable Idris Salman officially notified the House of Representatives about his party switch through a letter.
In the letter, the lawmaker explained that his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was prompted by a leadership crisis within the party at the national level.
He further stated that his decision to join the All Progressive Congress (APC) was the result of thorough consultations with his constituents.Ali Isa, the minority whip, raised a point of order on the minority bench, citing section 68 of the Constitution.
He argued that Idris Salman’s seat should be declared vacant, as prescribed by section 68.
Isa urged the speaker to avoid establishing a negative precedent that could potentially impact other members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who might consider switching to different political parties.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbass dismissed the point of order raised by Ali Isa, stating that he would gladly accept Isa’s resignation letter.
