Atiku Abubakar, the former Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, has stated that he is not focusing on the upcoming 2027 elections.
While speaking through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, in a statement issued on Thursday night, Atiku expressed his current concerns about the challenges many Nigerians are facing since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023.
In response to Bode George’s recent comments advising Atiku to step back from politics until 2031 if he aims for the presidency, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, clarified that Atiku’s attention is on the current issues in Nigeria and not on the 2027 political landscape.
One stated, “At this point, Atiku Abubakar’s preoccupation is not 2027. His concern is about 2024.”
“It is about 2025 and 2026 and beyond. His concern is about the plight of Nigerians who are literally going through hell because of the failed trial-and-error policies of this administration.”
Ibe went on to condemn the present government, emphasizing that it is “unfeeling” to talk about upcoming elections while Nigerians are enduring hardships under the current regime.
He also encouraged George to concentrate on advising President Tinubu to rethink policies that have exacerbated poverty and discord in the nation instead of concentrating on the politics of 2027.
