Yesterday, three ex-military leaders of Nigeria gathered privately in Minna, Niger State, to deliberate on the country’s present security conditions and political environment.
This exclusive meeting took place at the residence of former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), situated on a hill.
In attendance were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and former National Security Adviser, General Aliyu Gusau.
Sources disclosed that Babangida and his counterparts had been awaiting Obasanjo’s arrival at IBB’s estate before the discussions commenced.
While the specific details of the discussions remained undisclosed officially, reports indicate that the conversations primarily revolved around the escalating security crises nationwide.
Another focal point speculated to be part of the agenda was the refusal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to endorse a peace pact before the closely contested Edo gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
The meeting, reportedly lasting for two hours, concluded with former President Obasanjo departing for Abuja. He landed at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Airport around 4:30 PM, arriving on a chartered Gulfstream 5 aircraft for the occasion.
Following the private discussions, Obasanjo left Minna at approximately 6:30 PM aboard the same aircraft, accompanied by protocol officials from the Niger State Government.
Transportation services were facilitated by the Niger State government for the former president, ensuring his conveyance to and from the IBB residence.
Obasanjo’s return journey from Minna was observed around 7 PM as he made his way back to Abuja.
