IN DETAIL: Lagos LGAs received highest FAAC revenue in H1 2024

Date:

According to data from the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the 774 local government areas (LGAs) in Nigeria received a total of N1.69 trillion in net statutory allocations from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in the first half of 2024.

An analysis of the data reveals that all 20 LGAs in Lagos state received higher FAAC revenues compared to others. Alimosho LGA topped the list with N11.13 billion, followed by Ajeromi/Ifelodun LGA with N8.90 billion, and Kosofe LGA with N8.80 billion.

The top 35 LGAs in Nigeria by FAAC allocation in the first half of 2024 are predominantly from Lagos state, with a few from other states like Rivers and FCT Abuja.

In contrast, the lowest earners include Ifedayo LGA in Osun state, which received N1.30 billion, and Ilejemeji in Ekiti state, which got N1.38 billion.

This data comes after the supreme court ruled on July 11, 2024, that the federal government must directly disburse allocations to LGAs from the federation account, emphasizing the need for democratically elected officials in LGAs as required by the constitution.
