INEC initiates ward delineation process in Delta

Date:

On Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initiated the ward/unit delineation process in Delta State by visiting Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South West Local Government Area. The INEC officials conducted the delineation exercise in Oporoza, the traditional center of Gbaramatu Kingdom, focusing on the Warri Federal Constitution.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) visited Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State to initiate the process of ward and polling unit delineation in compliance with a Supreme Court ruling. The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom urged the INEC officials to fulfill their duties diligently and in accordance with the constitution.

The monarch said, “I have given you the go-ahead. You can go and do your work accordingly and perfectly as it is supposed to be.”

Ibrahim Ahmed, the Special Data Analyst from the INEC National Headquarters in Abuja, who headed the delegation, assured that the team would adhere to the constitution while carrying out their responsibilities.

He noted, “We assure you that we’re going to do this work diligently and according to the constitution, following the guidelines.”

In a conversation with reporters afterward, Buhari Ibrahim, a member of the team from the Electoral Operations Department at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja, stated that they would carefully record the coordinates of each locality and establish boundary demarcations accordingly.

“INEC will decide on wards and polling units after this stage. It is all about the identification and delineation of the communities. It will be credible based on findings and according to the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We will identify the localities, take the coordinate of every locality and demarcate the boundaries. After that, the commission will decide on the next stage,” he added.
