The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated its intention to release the report on the conduct of the 2023 General Election, along with the report from the review committee that assessed the election’s proceedings.
This announcement was made by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of INEC, during an induction retreat held in Lagos for newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
He emphasized the significance of evaluating performance, reassessing procedures, and engaging in conversations about advancements to enhance electoral services.
Yakubu highlighted to the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) that elections are currently in progress, involving various tasks such as voter registration.
He acknowledged that the retreat was well-timed, especially considering the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo states, along with five pending bye-elections.
In addition, he revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled four significant elections to take place prior to the next general election in 2027.
These include the governorship election in Anambra State, as well as the governorship elections in both Ekiti and Osun states.
Furthermore, the Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are also among the notable electoral events on INEC’s agenda.
