Inmate who fled prison after Maiduguri flood arrested

Date:

An inmate from the Nigerian Correctional Service facility after the recent flood in Maiduguri has been captured by the Borno State Police Command.

Abubakar Mohammed was detained again, as stated in a release by the state Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil.

It was reported earlier that more than 200 inmates fled the correctional facility when its perimeter wall collapsed due to the flooding, as announced by the state government.

However, Wakil mentioned that Abubakar Mohammed, a 27-year-old imprisoned for culpable homicide, was recaptured in Gubio town after his escape.

The police reported that the convict was apprehended around 3:00 pm on September 15, 2024, following a tip-off from a resident of Bulakara Ward in Gubio LGA.

Wakil reassured the public that endeavors are ongoing to recapture all other escapees.
