‘It’s an offence to release skit, music video without NFVCB classification’ – FG warns

Date:

The NFVCB has issued a warning stating that it is illegal to release music videos, skits, and films without obtaining proper classification from their board.

The classification system of the NFVCB helps families make informed decisions about what audiovisual content to watch by assigning age ratings and content advisories.

This system also aims to protect children from inappropriate material.

In an interview, the Director General of NFVCB, Shaibu Husseini, announced that the board’s classification requirements will now also cover music videos and skits.

Husseini issued a statement on Wednesday, cautioning content creators about sharing unclassified material.

He said, “It is also an offence to distribute or exhibit any film or video content, musical videos and skits on any platform without recourse to the National Film and Video Censors Board for classification. We are collaborating with relevant security agencies to track any individuals and production companies involved to make sure they face the full wrath of the law”.

The board also expressed disapproval towards the promotion and dissemination of same-sex content online, acknowledging that it is against the law to publicly display same-sex relationships in Nigeria.
