EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on March 21, 1963, Joke Muyiwa is a respected actress and academic.
Her education began at Sacred Heart Convent School and continued at Baptist Grammar School in Ibadan, Oyo State, for her primary and secondary schooling.
She further developed her talents at Obafemi Awolowo University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons) in Dramatic Arts, followed by a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan.
After many successful years in academia, she achieved her Doctorate (Ph.D.) from Redeemers University in December 2020.
CAREER
With a career in acting that spans over forty years, Muyiwa’s artistic journey started at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Ibadan and later included the University of Ibadan Performing Arts Theatre and the Obafemi Awolowo University Theatre Company.
She began her teaching career at Lagos State University in the early 2000s before joining Olabisi Onabanjo University, where she has spent more than 14 years educating students in the Performing Arts department.
Notably, she served as the head of the department at Olabisi Onabanjo University, demonstrating her expertise and dedication to nurturing future talent in the arts.
Joke Muyiwa was also honored as an ambassador by Capital Sage Holdings, which further established her impact in both the artistic and business sectors.
PERSONAL LIFE
Joke Muyiwa is a proud mother and grandmother. She has two sons, one of whom, Abayomi “Thespis” Ayeni, has chosen a career in music.
Sadly, she experienced the loss of one of her sons during infancy. In March 2020, she welcomed the joy of becoming a grandmother, which added to her family’s happiness.
