Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has publicly issued a warning to fellow actress Toyin Abraham, her junior colleague in the film industry.
On Sunday night, the Nollywood community came together at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State, for the prestigious Best of Nollywood Awards.
Kanayo O. Kanayo was indeed honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, and the the award was presented to him by the organizers of the BON Awards, which took place at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State on November 24th.
Kanayo O. Kanayo shared the honor with fellow veteran actress Madam Saje, born Fausat Balogun. The founder of the BON Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, explained that the Lifetime Achievement Awards are given to celebrate film heroes while they are still alive.
Kanayo O. Kanayo jokingly warned Toyin Abraham to avoid contacting him at 1 am, humorously implying that he might be busy with mystical activities, and to not rush off to his “coven.”
“I want to thank the organizers for these awards, and for this celebration. Toyin Abraham, this is just some minute to 12; if you talk to me at 1 am, I’ll take you to the coven, and you will disappear.
Your Excellency, it’s a privilege to have this award presented to me by you.
I dedicate these awards to some of her colleagues who have been caught on drugs and are in the hospital. I wish the different states could come together to rescue those who aren’t in good health. At 62 years, I am doing well in Nollywood”.
Kanayo O. Kanayo had playfully responded to Portable’s claim of wanting to take over his “ritual crowns” by setting a humorous appointment with the singer. Kanayo jokingly invited Portable to meet him at a mysterious hour.
Kanayo O. Kanayo addressed the public’s perception of him being involved in occult practices due to his frequent roles in money ritual movies. He clarified that he is not involved in any form of sacrifice or occultism, emphasizing that his faith and devotion lie with Jesus Christ.
Going on, Kanayo O. Kanayo made a humorous comment about his acting roles, saying he’ll continue to portray characters involved in night sacrifices as long as it brings him financial rewards. This statement was likely made in jest, given his previous clarification that he is a devout Christian and not involved in any occult practices.
Last year, Kanayo O. Kanayo opened up about his approach to playing certain roles, including those that involve him getting into a coffin. He clarified that he doesn’t perform any rituals or purification ceremonies before or after playing such roles. According to him, his faith in God and the talent He gave him are enough to protect him from any perceived negative influences.
