Nurses belonging to the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives have given the Kano State Government a 15-day deadline to meet their demands or face potential industrial action.
This ultimatum was issued following a State Administrative Council meeting where it was decided that the government had not adequately addressed the concerns raised by the nurses in previous correspondences.
The ultimatum, signed by the association’s acting State Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Sharada, and directed to the Kano State Head of Civil Service, outlined the intention of all nurses and midwives in the state to go on strike by ceasing services at clinical facilities and training institutions after the specified deadline of October 2nd to October 16th, 2024.
“The notice commences from Wednesday, 2nd October, to 16th October 2024,” the notice stated.
Among the demands made by the association are the revision of hazard allowances for nurses, the alignment of the Scheme of Service for nurses, and a 259% increase in the CONHESS salary structure for nurses.
It is important to note that medical doctors in Kano State, represented by the National Association of Government General and Medical Dental Practitioners, had also commenced an indefinite strike on October 1st, 2024, due to unmet agreements with the state government.
