The Katsina State government has taken proactive measures to mitigate potential flood disasters in seven vulnerable local government areas, following the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s prediction of torrential downpours in the coming days.
Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, addressed stakeholders on behalf of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
Faskari specifically identified Funtua, Bakori, Katsina, Bindawa, Daura, and Kaita local government areas as prone to floods, citing the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s prediction.
He stressed the importance of sensitizing these areas due to the devastating impact of heavy rainfall.
Faskari highlighted, “Funtua, Bakori, Katsina, Bindawa, Daura and Kaita local government areas were indicated by the prediction where they may likely be prone to floods.
“This is to remind ourselves of the need to sensitise the affected areas because of its importance that we have to converge together and be reminded about the ugly incidence of heavy rainfall.”
The meeting aimed to alert stakeholders, including local government officials, emergency response teams, and community leaders, to be on high alert and take necessary precautions. Faskari urged collaboration and swift response to minimize potential damage.
