The resident doctors at General Hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State, are seeking reinforcements! They’ve made a joint appeal to Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq to boost the hospital’s workforce by hiring more medical staff.
In a statement, Dr. Usman Abubakar (President) and Dr. Audu Charles (Secretary) highlighted the urgent need to address the severe shortage of medical personnel, which is limiting the hospital’s ability to provide adequate services in certain areas.
“Since the General Hospital, Ilorin, is now a Teaching Hospital, it has become pertinent to address germane issues which will help the Teaching Hospital take off successfully and allow it to have smooth operations for the benefit of all in Kwara,” the ARD mentioned.
The doctors extended their congratulations to the governor on the significant accomplishments of his administration, particularly in the areas of malaria control and the successful passage of the Kwara State Teaching Hospital Bill, acknowledging these as notable achievements.
“While congratulating you, on these achievements, we want you not to relent on your commendable efforts to make Kwara a shining star amongst other States in the country,” they added.
The association further noted, the issue of the Medical Residency Training Act, saying it was overdue for domestication.
They highlighted, “This will allow resident doctors in the state to have better research and training opportunities in order for them to offer the best medical services to the people.
“We know as our leader, you will help look into them as they require very urgent attention.
“The entire members of the Association heartily wish Governor Abdulrahaman Abdrazaq, Barka da Sallah as we celebrate this year’s Eid Adha,” the Association stated in the statement.
The state governor recently signed a bill that elevated the status of the state General Hospital, transforming it into the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, a significant development that upgrades the facility’s capabilities and reputation.
