The Kwara State Government, aiming to maintain a clean and healthy environment, has sought the assistance of Brigadier General Olufemi Williams, Commander of the 22 Brigade.
This collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit by the State Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, to the Brigade’s headquarters in Ilorin, as part of efforts to sustain a cleaner Kwara.
According to her, “We are here to seek the collaboration of the Nigerian Army to achieve a cleaner Kwara, most especially on the enforcement of laws, during the monthly sanitation exercise as well as curbing deforestation, in order to sustain a clean and hygienic environment, capable of paving the way for healthy living.”
In a statement released on Sunday, Press Secretary Abolarinwa Esther revealed that Environment Commissioner Nafisat Buge has expressed concern over the rampant indiscriminate dumping of waste in the metropolis, warning that urgent action is needed to prevent a cholera outbreak.
Buge reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy environment under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership.
Brigadier General Olufemi Williams, 22 Brigade Commander, praised the governor’s efforts to make the state attractive and safe for residents and investors.
He also commended Buge for addressing the waste management issue and assured her of the military’s support in enforcing environmental laws and achieving a healthy environment in the state.
