EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Lady Zamar, whose real name is Yamikani Janet Banda, was born on June 19, 1995 in Tembisa Township, East Rand, Gauteng.

She grew up in a supportive family who encouraged her love for music.

Eventually, her family moved to Mamelodi, Pretoria, Gauteng, where she spent her crucial developmental years.

CAREER

In 2011, Lady Zamar’s music career began when she met Junior Taurus. Together, they released their first album, Cotton Candy, on October 14, 2015.

This album produced three singles and received two nominations at the 22nd South African Music Awards.

Afterwards, Lady Zamar pursued a solo career and released her debut album, King Zamar, in March 2017.

The album achieved great success, earning a gold certification in February 2018 and a double platinum certification in June 2019.

During her solo career, Lady Zamar accomplished notable feats such as winning the Song of the Year Award at the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards in 2017 and Best Dance Album at the 24th South African Music Awards.

She also headlined the Vivo Nation Festival in March 2018 and performed at a women’s concert on National Women’s Day in August 2018.

On June 21, 2019, Lady Zamar released her second solo album, Monarch, and received the Best House Single award for “This is Love” at the 4th Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards in 2019.

Most recently, she announced her upcoming album, Rainbow, which is scheduled to be released in April 2024.
