Lagos Apprehends 20 For Open Defecation At Berger

Date:

Lagos State authorities have taken a stern stance against open defecation, arresting 20 individuals caught in the act at Berger.

This move follows the state government’s warning on Thursday to prosecute those engaging in open defecation, particularly in the Berger area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

NAIJATRAFFIC Reports Last week that, the Lagos and Ogun governments initiated a cleanup of the median along the expressway and cautioned the public against defecating there.

In response to the persistent issue, Ogun State plans to establish a mobile court to try offenders.

On Sunday, the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the crackdown, revealing that LAGESC operatives arrested 20 individuals for environmental infractions during a patrol and monitoring exercise in Ojodu-Berger.

“Open Defecation, During patrol and monitoring of Ojodu – Berger yesterday night and early hours of today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial arrested 20 individuals for committing environmental infractions,” he wrote.

The state government’s zero-tolerance approach to open defecation aligns with its broader goal of maintaining a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for residents.
