Lagos Seals Building For Dumping Waste In Floodwaters

Date:

The Lagos State Government took swift action by sealing a building in Ijesha, located in the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, after two residents were caught red-handed disposing of waste in floodwaters during a heavy downpour on Wednesday.

According to Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, the individuals, a man and woman, were spotted rolling a trash drum into the flooded street, as seen in a photo shared on social media by #Adetutuadeoye3, who accused them of recklessly disposing of their waste in the floodwater.

She wrote, “These people just poured out their waste in the flood water. This is no 2 Akewukewe Street beside Ikate Local Government in Ijesha Surulere.

The commissioner acknowledged the post and replied, “Thank you for bringing it to our attention. @muyiwag @lawma_gov, please take note.”

The commissioner reported that the building in question has been identified and subsequently sealed off, with the house being locked up to prevent further illegal activities.

“The house has been identified and locked immediately by the Environmental Health Service Department of Itire-Ikate LCDA,” he stated.

Earlier, Naijatraffic reported that a deluge of floodwaters had overwhelmed several areas of Lagos, including Iyana-Oworo, Oshodi, and Lagos Island, effectively grinding all activities to a halt.

The severity of the flooding was vividly captured in videos and images shared online, showcasing the devastating impact on various parts of the city on Wednesday morning.

The torrential downpour, which commenced around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, resulted in numerous residents being marooned in their homes, while streets became impassable, bringing the city to a standstill.
