Lagos State Govt Refutes Rumors Of Reinstating Monthly Sanitation Exercises And Movement Restrictions

Date:

The Lagos State Government issued a statement on Wednesday refuting media reports claiming the reinstatement of the monthly environmental sanitation program.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, attributed the misinformation to troublemakers seeking to mislead the public, as conveyed in a release by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina.

Wahab urged residents to ignore the false reports and continue their daily activities without any movement restrictions in July.

He clarified that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had actually announced a weekly community-based awareness campaign during a recent event, which differs from the rumored reinstatement of monthly sanitation exercises.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the upcoming sensitization efforts aimed at enhancing environmental consciousness among all Lagosians.

“The governor also stated that State Government officials will lead from the front every week by going round to join residents in voluntarily cleaning their environment while preaching the message,” he added.

The commissioner clarified that the governor never announced the resumption of monthly sanitation exercises and movement restrictions in July or any future date.

He encouraged Lagos residents to adopt a habit of regularly cleaning their surroundings, rather than waiting for the government to declare a specific month for sanitation and movement restrictions.
