The Lagos State House of Assembly has put a stop to the activities of the Alimosho local government area chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, indefinitely.
This decision was made known during the House of Assembly’s meeting on Monday, October 7.
The lawmakers agreed that the vice chairman of the council, Mr. Akinpelu Johnson, should now be in charge of running the council.
Additionally, the House directed the council’s management team, including the manager and treasurer, to acknowledge the authority of the vice chairman and assist him in carrying out his duties effectively.
The lawmakers all agreed to suspend the chairman because they accused him of not following the rules, being disobedient, and not cooperating with the legislative House.
The motion to suspend the chairman was put forward by Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, who leads the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, supported the decision to suspend Jelili, saying it would serve as a warning to other local government chairmen to behave properly.
He stated, “The Alimosho council chairman does not follow procurement processes or the budget. There has been a lot of misconduct from him and I support that the chairman be suspended indefinitely.”
