LASG Says- Over 11, 000 Children Treated For Cholera Between 2017 To 2024

Date:

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that over 11,000 children received treatment for cholera between 2017 and 2024.

Additionally, more than 248,962 women are currently accessing family planning services from trained community pharmacists and patent medicine vendors in the state.

Dr. Adeleye Latifat, Family Planning Coordinator at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, revealed that 11,475 children under five years old received ORS and Zinc treatment, while 2,812 children under five with pneumonia received Amoxicillin DT treatment.

She also reported that 3,900 referrals were made to public facilities from community pharmacists and patent medicine vendors, highlighting the accessibility of family planning services to numerous families in the state.

“759,494 condoms were distributed, 166,079 oral pills given, 10,525 injectables administered, and 3,814 implants inserted.”

On the treatment of children, she added that “19,776 U-5 children with fever (were) tested with RDT and 11,393 (were) treated with ACT.”

She mentioned  the challenges of the team to be the high cost of family planning commodities that “has hampered the stocking of FP commodities by some providers and the reduction in service uptake across the board attributed to the high cost of commodities, consumables, and overall business running cost.”

DKT International Nigeria, a non-profit organization, educated the Makoko community in Lagos about the significance of family planning in May.

The NGO emphasized that family planning is the most cost-effective way to enhance maternal health in Nigeria, highlighting its importance for mothers’ well-being.
