Mary Njoku laments as she sends wake-up call to social media users

Date:

Mary Njoku, a prominent Nollywood actress and filmmaker, issues a thought-provoking message to social media users.

Mary Njoku expressed nostalgia for a bygone era where individuals directly addressed and resolved conflicts, opting for open, face-to-face conversations.

She lamented the current trend where people bypass constructive dialogue, instead choosing to hide behind social media and adopt keyboard warrior personas, seeking sympathy, temporary fame, and virtual validation rather than confronting issues head-on.

Mary Njoku emphasized that the prevalence of online grandstanding rather than genuine conflict resolution is why meaningful progress eludes us.

She stressed that true change requires tackling problems in the real world, rather than merely seeking virtual sympathy. Njoku urged people to shift focus from social media posturing to tangible, offline action, recognizing that genuine support and solutions can only be found in the physical world, where real life unfolds.

Mary Njoku cautioned that social media is a virtual facade, disconnected from reality, and urged people to avoid getting caught up in its illusion.

She emphasized the importance of separating online existence from genuine life experiences, advising individuals to refrain from substituting social media engagement for authentic human connections and real-world interactions. In essence, she said: “Don’t confuse social media with reality; live your life beyond the screen.”

“I miss the days when if someone messed up, you’d confront them in person and have a team conversation. Now, we’ve become keyboard warriors, seeking public sympathy and temporary fame on SM instead of facing issues head-on.

That’s why nothing changes!

That ‘Lecturer’ might still not be fired

Real life is REAL and no one truly cares about your struggles. While on SM, start solving your problems in the real world.

Wake up”.

Wake up! Social media isn’t REAL. Stop living in it. REAL is REAL”.

Relatedly, Comedian Ayo Makun warned that social media has become a platform where emotions and personal opinions outweigh objective facts, likening it to a modern-day “King Kong” that destroys rational discourse. He observed that foolish statements are often praised if they align with popular views, while wise perspectives are persecuted if they contradict the majority. Makun also pointed out the ironic phenomenon where people confidently and elegantly express misinformation, showcasing their ignorance with unwarranted assurance, fueled by emotions and biases.

Sometime last year, Mary Njoku challenged fellow celebrities to consider their post-stardom future, emphasizing that fame is fleeting. She asked: “What happens when the spotlight fades? Do you have a stable personal life to return to, or have you sacrificed your real life for the sake of fame, leaving you with nothing to fall back on?”
