They fetched a remarkable $2.2 million (£1.7 million) at an auction on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. The basketball star sported the Air Jordan XIII sneakers that were auctioned at Sotheby’s during his last championship season with the Chicago Bulls in 1997–98.
These sneakers are referred to as “Bred” due to their distinctive black and red color combination, a design that Jordan favored throughout much of his career. Interestingly, they were banned for breaching the NBA’s color policy.
The signed sneakers rank among the priciest Jordan collectibles, with Sotheby’s appraising them between $2 million and $4 million. In 2022, his jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals fetched $10.1 million.
The latest auction of sports memorabilia reinforces Jordan’s reputation as one of the greatest athletes ever.
Previously, the record for the highest-priced sneakers was held by Jordan’s Nike Air Ships, which sold for $1.47 million in 2021.
