Young John, a popular Afrobeats singer, has shared his personal story about his childhood and the process of accepting a new reality outside of his upbringing.
During a recent conversation with Saige Jones, John disclosed that he was raised in a Christian household, where both of his parents served as pastors.
Additionally, he said that his musical journey began in church, where he started as a drummer.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Young John expressed that he had a strong belief in love due to witnessing the loving relationship between his parents.
However, as he grew older, he encountered a contrasting reality in the outside world.
He also discussed the experience of his mother’s death from cancer and how he is coping with the emotional distress.
He said, “I grew up in a religious home. Both my mum and dad were pastors. My mum had a school. She was a psychologist. So I grew up in a religious background. I started my music career as a church drummer and keyboardist.
When I was really young, I believed in love so much because of what I used to see between my parents, before I grew up and saw the world is a lot different than that.
My family was a very closed one until everybody got busy with life. And life happened. My mum is late now. We lost her to cancer. It happened a while ago. I’m over it now.”
