The NAFDAC Coordinator in Katsina State revealed that expired drugs valued at over N18 million were confiscated and eliminated by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
The coordinator, Mr. Musa Momodu, made this announcement during a workshop for stakeholders in Katsina.
He noted that the expired medications, totaling about 15 metric tonnes, were disposed of in Kano State by the North-West Zonal Office. Some of the drugs were voluntarily handed over by their owners, while others were seized.
Mr. Momodu highlighted the successful efforts of NAFDAC in Katsina, emphasizing the positive feedback received from residents, consumers, and various stakeholders regarding the agency’s performance in the region.
He noted, “The workshop was organised because we have discovered that there is a gap in knowledge between the stakeholders and what NAFDAC requires of them.
“The main essence is to continue reminding ourselves what’s required of us as an agency, and also our stakeholders in different fields, especially the bakers, patent medicine vendors and pure water people.”
The workshop drew a wide range of participants, comprising members from the Association of Table Water Producers and the Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers.
Additionally, the event was attended by agrochemical dealers, Master Bakers, representatives from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, as well as operators of supermarkets, fast food establishments, and restaurants.
