Navy’s Medical Outreach Benefits 1,000 In Bayelsa

Date:

In a recent display of community goodwill, the Nigerian Navy Outpost Koluama provided complimentary medical care to over 1,000 residents of Koluama II in Bayelsa State’s Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

On Saturday, Commanding Officer Stephen Agwai explained that the primary goal of this free medical service was to strengthen ties with the host community.

The comprehensive medical outreach included various services such as health checkups, consultations, health education, and distribution of insecticide-treated nets and medication.

According to Agwai, this initiative would have a profoundly positive impact on the community, significantly reducing the health challenges faced by its members.

He highlighted that this outreach was a key aspect of the navy’s corporate social responsibility, demonstrating gratitude to the host community for their support in enabling the navy to fulfill its constitutional obligations.

Agwai said, “As we embark on this free medical rhapsody, we reaffirm our commitment to the well-being and prosperity of every Nigerian. Health is fundamental to human existence.

“Therefore, as part of its corporate social responsibility, the Nigerian Navy deems it fit to ensure that quality healthcare reaches every corner of our nation. Hence, the Koluama II community was selected for this outreach.

“The Koluama II community in Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa holds a special place in our hearts, and it is fitting that we begin our commemoration here. Today, we bring not only medical expertise but also compassion, care and solidarity.”

Commanding Officer Stephen Agwai encouraged the residents to fully utilize the free medical services, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing their health by seeking medical attention when needed.

He also extended his appreciation and commendation to the medical team and volunteers, acknowledging their tireless efforts and dedication in making the successful outreach program a reality.

He said: “Your selfless service embodies the spirit of the Nigerian Navy and your contributions will leave a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.”

The Secretary, Council of Chiefs, Koluama II community, J.A. Ekubo, applauded the Nigerian Navy for the free medical services brought to the community.

Ekubo said it was the second time the navy was doing such free medical outreach explaining that “we are fishermen, most of us don’t know our health status. This has given us a great opportunity.”

Ebi Tebowei, a recipient of the free medical services, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for selecting their community as a beneficiary of the outreach program, praising their thoughtful gesture.
