The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has expressed concern over the high rate of food insecurity in Nigeria through its General Household Survey-Panel Wave 5 (2023/2024) report.
It disclosed that 20.8% of people in Nigeria borrows food or ask from friends and family over the past 30 days.
It further showed that 65.8% of households cannot afford healthy and adequate meals due to financial challenges.
About 63.8% of households have limited choice of foods, while 62.4% worries about running out of food.
Also, 60.5% usually eat little food because of food scarcity.
The report shows the need to strengthen the policies that address affordable food, boosting of farm production and the implementation of measures to eliminate food insecurity across the country.
