NCAA to launch portal to track airline performance in August

Date:

Michael Achimugu, director of public affairs and consumer protection at the NCAA, announced  on Friday that a new consumer protection portal is set to launch in August.

Achimugu explained that the portal will allow passengers to log complaints, track airline on-time performance, and access self-reported data on case resolutions. This initiative aims to make airline performance data publicly accessible and transparent.

“Our consumer protection portal is ready for deployment. We are currently training our officers, and it will go live in August,” said Achimugu.

He added that the portal will facilitate the real-time collection of flight operations data and the resolution of complaints. “The public will be able to see in real-time each airline’s performance regarding flight operations and complaints handling, enhancing customer experience.”

In January, Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development, announced that the ministry would begin publishing data on delayed or canceled flights by domestic airlines. He noted that suspending airline operations is not an option for sanctions.

Clarifying the minister’s statement, Achimugu said the new portal would promote transparency and accountability among airlines. “Rather than naming and shaming, a transparent and incontestable system where customer experience and real-time data are reported will be more effective.”

He also assured that the portal would ensure fairness in evaluating consumer complaints.
