NEDC Renovates Gombe Central Medical Store After Fire

Date:

The North-East Development Commission has started the restoration of the Central Medical Store in Gombe State, which suffered significant damage due to a fire incident in the previous February, as reported by NAIJATRAFFIC.

The new endeavor aims to establish a cutting-edge medical facility that will include a specialized cold storage room for vaccines and a dry storage area for other essential medical supplies.

In a recent handover ceremony of the site to the contractor, Rufai Babamanu, the Acting Coordinator of NEDC Gombe, disclosed that the project is set to be completed within the next 12 months.

He added, “We are confident that by this time next year, we will be back here to celebrate the successful completion and handover of this vital project.”

He expressed confidence that the upcoming year will witness a celebration for the successful conclusion and handover of this critical project.

Babamanu conveyed his appreciation to the state government for their continued cooperation and encouraged the Ministry of Health and the local community to create a conducive atmosphere for the contractor, ensuring a seamless execution of the project.

Dr. Habu Dahiru, the Commissioner for Health, who spearheaded the state delegation at the handover event, recounted the devastating fire incident in February that resulted in the loss of a substantial amount of vaccines and medical supplies.

Dahiru said, “Today marks a significant step forward as the NEDC steps in to rectify this unfortunate incident by constructing a pharma-grade pharmaceutical warehouse.”

Dahiru regarded the intervention of NEDC in constructing a pharmaceutical warehouse designed to meet high pharmaceutical standards as a significant progress in rectifying the unfortunate incident.

He recognized NEDC’s consistent support in the health sector by aiding maternal and child health, providing vaccines, anti-snake venom, and implementing various capacity-building programs for healthcare personnel.

The commissioner pledged full support from the state government to ensure the successful completion of the project, promising personal oversight to uphold smooth operations.

He highlighted the government’s commitment to granting the Commission unrestricted access to the site, fostering a collaborative environment among all stakeholders involved.
