The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned the public against bush burning during the harmattan season .
Edo State NEMA’s Head of Operations, Ojuedene Kenoma, cautioned the public on the disadvantages of burning bush in the harmattan season at a workshop aimed at training local government officials and volunteers in disaster prevention, response and control measures.
He said, “Disasters such as tanker accidents, fire outbreaks, or other emergencies occur unexpectedly. It is essential to cultivate a culture of preparedness, awareness and effective response, particularly at the grassroots.”
The workshop was aimed at teaching them how to address such disasters during the harmattan season. He further urged the volunteers to teach the local communities these measures.
Federal Fire Service Superintendent, Asimu Sumaila urged the public to take full responsibility for fire safety.
He urged them to ensure that they make use of the fire extinguishers and adhere to other safety measures.
