NGX Group confirms appointment of Jude Chiemeka as CEO

Date:

Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) has announced the appointment of Jude Chiemeka as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), its operational subsidiary.

In a statement dated July 4, the group mentioned that this appointment became effective on July 1, following approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Chiemeka has been acting as the CEO of NGX since January 1, taking over from Temi Popoola, who has moved on to become the group managing director (GMD) and CEO of NGX Group.

The NGX Group highlighted that Chiemeka brings nearly three decades of experience in African securities trading and asset management to his new position.

Commenting on his appointment, Chiemeka expressed his dedication to working with the NGX team to enhance the exchange’s dynamism and inclusivity, driving Nigeria’s economic growth and increasing its global competitiveness.

“I am honored to be appointed as CEO of NGX at this pivotal moment in the Exchange’s history. My heartfelt thanks go to the Boards of NGX Group and NGX,” Chiemeka said.

“As we aim to build on our successes and maximize value for all stakeholders, I look forward to collaborating closely with NGX’s exceptional team and the broader capital market community.

“We are committed to developing a more dynamic and inclusive exchange that stimulates Nigeria’s economic growth and holds its own on the global stage.”

Umaru Kwairanga, NGX Group’s chairman, noted that Chiemeka’s appointment is in line with the group’s succession plan and enhances the ongoing synergy across its operations.

“Mr. Chiemeka’s extensive experience and proven leadership qualities are invaluable assets that will drive NGX towards long-term success,” Kwairanga said.

“Under his leadership, I am confident that NGX will play an even more pivotal role in contributing to sustainable growth for both Nigeria’s and Africa’s economies.”

Ahonsi Unuigbe, chairman of NGX, emphasized that Chiemeka is expected to promote growth and innovation, improve operational perspectives, democratize investment in the capital market, and create new opportunities for investors.

Temi Popoola, GMD and CEO of NGX Group, stated that Chiemeka’s comprehensive experience and deep market understanding will be crucial for NGX’s growth, aligning with the broader group strategy.

“I am delighted to see Mr. Chiemeka step into the role of CEO of NGX. I look forward to working closely with him to unlock value and create new opportunities for stakeholders across the entire NGX Group ecosystem,” Popoola said.

A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Chiemeka is an alumnus of the University of Lagos, Lagos Business School, and the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.

His career includes roles as executive director of capital markets at NGX and MD/CEO of United Capital Securities Limited. He has also worked with prominent investment banking firms in Nigeria such as Chapel Hill Denham Securities and Rencap Securities (Nigeria).
