NiMet Predicts R Three-Day Thunderstorms, Rains From Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast, predicting a spell of thundery and rainy weather across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.

According to the outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, Monday is expected to begin with morning thunderstorms in parts of Kebbi, Katsina, Borno, Bauchi, and Taraba states, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon in Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, and Kebbi states.

Additionally, moderate rainfall is anticipated in the morning hours over parts of Nassarawa, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Niger.

“In the afternoon and evening hours, moderate thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nassarawa, Kogi and Plateau States.

“Rains are expected over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom in the morning hours.

“Later in the day, light to moderate rains are expected over parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta,“ it noted.

On Tuesday, NiMet predicts that parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara will experience morning thunderstorms, while Bauchi, Taraba, Zamfara, and Kebbi can expect thunderstorms later in the day or evening.

Furthermore, the agency forecasts moderate rainfall in the morning hours over parts of Niger and Kwara States.

“Later in the day, moderate thunderstorms with rains are anticipated over parts of Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue and Kogi. Cloudy skies should prevail over the southern region during the morning hours.

“In the afternoon and or evening hours, intermittent rains are expected over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River and Akwa Ibom,“ it mentioned.

NiMet forecasts thunderstorms to affect parts of Sokoto, Borno, Katsina, and Kebbi on Wednesday morning, with additional storms expected to hit Taraba, Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara later in the day. Meanwhile, the North central region will experience cloudy conditions in the morning, giving way to thunderstorms as the day unfolds.

The southern region is expected to be overcast in the morning, with thunderstorms likely to develop throughout the day.

“In the afternoon and or evening hours, moderate rains are envisaged over the entire region, strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, public should take adequate precaution.

“High likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas. Adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
