NLNG inaugurates 10,000 tonnes plant for Train 7 project

Date:

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has launched a state-of-the-art galvanizing plant with a capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes per annum, supporting its Train 7 project in Rivers State. The facility, inaugurated by Felix Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), is designed to coat iron and steel with a protective layer of zinc.

According to Sophia Horsfall, Manager of Corporate Communications, the plant will significantly boost Nigeria’s galvanizing capacity to approximately 180,000 tonnes annually, serving various industries, including oil and gas, telecommunications, and power. Ogbe highlighted the importance of galvanizing in protecting materials against corrosion, extending the service life of steel, and enhancing cost-effectiveness and safety.

The executive secretary noted that the plant’s strategic location positions Nigeria to attract businesses from other African countries through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), contingent upon prioritizing quality standards and competitive marketing. The facility contributes to job creation and supports the economic goals of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Philip Mshelbila, NLNG’s Managing Director, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigerian content objectives for the Train 7 project. He emphasized the importance of protecting steels for durability in the energy sector, improving resilience, operational efficiency, and equipment lifespan while reducing replacement costs. The plant demonstrates NLNG’s compliance with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act and its vision of being a globally competitive company contributing to Nigeria’s economy.
