NPA MD: TinCan port rehabilitation will be hastened to improve competitiveness

Date:

Abubakar Dantsoho, the managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), announced plans to expedite the rehabilitation of TinCan Island Port to enhance its competitiveness.

During his visit to the port on Monday, Dantsoho emphasized that his primary focus is on the rapid improvement of the country’s deteriorating port infrastructure. He pledged to work closely with port stakeholders to boost the efficiency of services at Nigeria’s seaports.

Dantsoho highlighted the importance of adequate port infrastructure and strong stakeholder collaboration for increasing revenue through improved efficiency and productivity.

He reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s mandate for the NPA to provide efficient port services and better industry outcomes, assuring that his team is committed to achieving these goals promptly.

“With the support from the honourable minister of marine and blue economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola CON, I assure stakeholders that the long-awaited reconstruction of TinCan ports complex will move from rhetoric to action,” Dantsoho stated.

He stressed that port competitiveness depends on reliable infrastructure and promised that the NPA would address this need promptly to better serve Nigeria’s domestic cargo requirements and those of neighboring landlocked countries.

On June 22, Dantsoho outlined his primary objective for the NPA: to increase productivity and enhance efficiency for better revenue generation for both the NPA and the country.

He also mentioned that the NPA will continue its digital transformation efforts and strengthen the implementation of the port community system (PCS). Additionally, Dantsoho noted that the authority will focus on improving logistics related to cargo arrival along the port corridor.
