Ogun State Government To Provide Grants To 236 Healthcare Centers

Date:

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced plans to disburse grants and facilities to 236 Primary Health Centers across the state, ensuring they meet World Health Organization standards.

This initiative aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided by these centers.

The governor made this declaration during a meeting with the National Association of Resident Doctors’ executive members, who were in Abeokuta for their 44th annual general meeting and scientific conference .

He said, “We have grants and facilities from multilateral organisations that we are going to begin to expend very soon, which will allow us to have a minimum of 236 primary healthcare centres built in line with the requirements of the World Health Organisation.”

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has pledged to continue investing in primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare institutions, as well as doctor training and human capital development.

His administration has already renovated around 100 primary healthcare centers, equipping them with solar energy, digital communication tools, and electronic record-keeping systems.

Additionally, Abiodun’s government has consistently paid hazard allowances to doctors and approved payments for clinical duty allowances.

He encouraged the National Association of Resident Doctors to continue sharing knowledge and experiences to enhance the healthcare sector.

“I want to encourage you to continue to meet like this and to discuss among each other so that you can share knowledge, share experiences, and come up with ways and means to improve health care delivery.

“And when you come up with these resolutions, those of us in government would like for you to forward them to us so we can give you the needed support,” he highlighted.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced the successful implementation of the state’s health insurance scheme, benefiting both the organized private sector and civil service. This initiative is part of his administration’s efforts to improve healthcare in the state, which also includes upgrading 236 primary healthcare centers .

During a recent meeting, Dr. Dele Abdulahi, the outgoing National President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), highlighted the challenges facing the association, particularly the migration of doctors outside Nigeria and within the country.

Abdulahi commended Governor Abiodun’s strides in the health sector and urged him to address inter-state migration by introducing car and housing loans to retain medical professionals.

“One of the problems that are plaguing doctors in Nigeria, which affects our association a lot, is the migration of doctors.

“But of peculiar importance is not just the migration outside of the country but inter-state migration. It is one of the major problems that we have been noting, whereby we have the influx to other states,” he noted.
