EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Originally from Umlazi, Durban, Okmalumkoolkat relocated to Johannesburg after finishing college.
There, he teamed up with Doctor SpiZee to create the energetic duo Dirty Paraffin, driven by their shared love for art.
Together, they embarked on numerous collaborative ventures.
Following a burglary at their residence, they utilized Okmalumkoolkat’s skills in design to secure artistic opportunities, such as a significant period working with Nike, where he crafted unique brand visuals and layouts.
CAREER
Okmalumkoolkat’s music career began in 2012 when he collaborated with LV on the album “Sebenza” released by Hyperdub.
He gained further recognition by being featured on Zintle Mbekeli’s popular single “Amakamera ang’shoote”, which ultimately led to him signing a record deal with Affine Records.
In 2016, he released his first album titled “Mlazi Milano”, which was supported by the successful singles “Ntwana Yam'” and “Gqi”.
He followed this up with his debut EP called “Holy Oxygen”. In 2019, he released the singles “Amakamera Angshoote” and “Drip Siphi Iskorobho”, and in 2020, he released his EP “Bhlomington”.
In 2022, he made an announcement about his second studio album titled “uShukela eTiyeni”.
He released the lead single “Uthando To The T” featuring Debra Nist, and the full album was released on April 29. The album includes collaborations with various artists.
PERSONAL LIFE
In 2023, Okmalumkoolkat and his long-term partner Simisile Zulu, with whom he has a son, publicly announced their separation shortly after commemorating their eighth anniversary.
Simisile took to social media to confirm the breakup, expressing that they have mutually and respectfully decided to go their separate ways.
