Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced his administration’s strategy to introduce the Osun Young Agropreneurs Incubation Programme, which aims to support young farmers and agropreneurs working across different aspects of the agricultural sector.
The governor revealed that this initiative stemmed from the recommendations of the food security committee established by the state government.
He highlighted that the execution committee, led by the Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr Olaniran Akanfe, had been tasked with implementing the suggestions and proposals outlined in the Food Security Committee’s report.
Adeleke outlined that the program would involve allocating a minimum of 1,000 hectares of land per local government in all 30 local government areas within the state, with tractors provided to clear the land.
Furthermore, he discussed a meeting with a Nordic firm interested in establishing a tractor assembly plant in Osun, emphasizing the thorough and inclusive nature of his plans for the agricultural sector. Adeleke affirmed the state’s preparedness to roll out various initiatives within the sector.
Governor Adeleke also mentioned additional benefits under the program, including the provision of farm inputs, guaranteed market access, support for year-round irrigation farming, incorporation of hydroponic and precision farming techniques, and a focus on gender equality and inclusiveness.
